Abstract: This paper introduces a research project that de- bunks the myths surrounding building and physical strength. Moving through time and across cultures, it examines human builders and their relationship with the natural world and uncovers the impact of the collective imagination on the world of building. It explores the opportunities for social innovation through grassroots initiatives that seek to re-design construction tools in order to initiate a more inclusive com- munity and ethos for the sphere of architecture and construction; the ultimate goal being to create a space in which wo- men can actually build the buildings that women architects have designed.
